UPDATE:C-SPANhas formally askedHouseSpeakerKevin McCarthyto cover floor proceedings by installing a few additional cameras in the chamber.
Because it was a special event, C-SPAN obtained permission to cover the proceedings with its own cameras.
That gave viewers a much more candid glimpse of lawmakers on the floor.

Most other times, C-SPAN coverage of the House floor is via stationary cameras controlled by the government.

C-SPAN is finding some support among lawmakers.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL)introduced an amendmentto bring the cameras back into the chamber.

So why limit independentmediacameras to just special events?
We are having our own internal discussions about next steps, he said via email.
We certainly hope to gain greater access to at least key legislative proceedings.
While it takes a long, long time to change tradition in D.C., it does happen.
That has continued this term.
We have resumed using the feed from the House/government-operating cameras.
