Nimonahas had quite a journey before arriving onNetflix.
Based on Stevensons original graphic novel,Nimonatakes place in a futuristic medieval world.
Along the way the pair bond, and the lines between heroes and monsters starts to blur.

It was really that idea of seeing someone for who they are and for who they want to be.
If she gets sanded down or if she gets turned into a character whos cuter, more generic…
These guys were the ones who had to do all the hard work.

I know it did to everyone on the crew.
Nimona is a character who just wants to be seen for who she is and its complex.
We were lucky enough to find what ND did as a young kid.
But when were [doing interviews], were not talking about how cool it looks.
I think that was what really kept us all going during the hardest parts.
I feel like she made all of us a little more punk rock.
Its very powerful when youre watching this character refusing to put herself in a box for someone else.
And it takes Ballister the entire movie to finally hear that.
Even though hes trying, hes still making mistakes, but it took him to the end.
It was just something that sprang into my mind.
But I think thats what this movie is and you cant take that away.
You cant change that.
You cant turn it into anything different.
It never stops blowing my mind.
DEADLINE: I feel likeanimationspecifically is kind of the perfect medium to get this message across.
For us, that message is to get to know people.
DEADLINE: Chloe Grace Moretz is such a perfect casting for the voice of Nimona.
Was the character difficult to cast?
BRUNO: It could have been and it should have been.
She brought everything to Nimona and I feel like its a real standout character.
We actually start removing detail, do more simplified geometry.
And that was just this idea of being closer.
I was so completely blown away and just overjoyed by the attention to detail.
