DEADLINE: This is quite the turnout.
How are you feeling about getting to see all these familiar faces on the picket line?
ERIC KRIPKE:So good.

The cast, writers and crew of ‘Supernatural’Katie Campione/Deadline
Thats the best part.
DEADLINE:Supernaturalran for so long.
Can you think of any big moments from the show that were shaped by the room?

KRIPKE:I dont have a specific example because thats literally every day.
Were all trying to figure this out.
Theres only one asshole in the room, and thats me.
And no one in this room is allowed to say no, except me.
So lets just start talking.
Every filmmaker who got powerful enough that they stopped saying no just starts making garbage.
So I think its really important to have big staffs [and] really diverse staff.
When I started out, staffs werent very diverse.
It was a lot of white dudes.
Its better now than its ever been.
Theres so many interesting perspectives and backgrounds and points of view that make the work better.
Ive just never understood that Im gonna write it myself thing.
They have to produce their episodes.
Its just so short-sighted to not train the next generation.
Working with me, I insist that everyone stays for the span [of the production].
People are like Thats so great of you, and Im like, its completely selfish.
It makes them better writing the show, and I dont want to f*cking live in Toronto.
I got a family.
Theres every reason to have a robust staff.
KRIPKE:Theres no way that one season can come out of a single persons head.
Its a collage, and thats the best part.
My feeling is, youre missing out on the best part of this job.
All of it is a grinding sh*t show.
Thats the best part.
So I dont understand why thats even an issue.
DEADLINE: SinceThe Winchestersended, the franchise as we know it right now is over.
Have you reflected on that?
How does it feel?
I dont have this backup plan.
My only wildest dream was to go five years on that show.
I couldnt have predicted this and what it became.
I dont have good words for that.
That blows me away.
Would you mind speaking to that?
KRIPKE:Ill give a perfect example.
The Netflix streaming ofSupernaturalis consistently in the Top 10 for billions of minutes streamed.
No one should cry for me.
Im not asking for any sympathy for that.
Im just pointing out the inequity.
DEADLINE: Well, and streaming is a whole different ballgame.
Theres no syndication pipeline the way that there still sort of is for shows likeSupernatural.
Writers still get paid per episode.
Thats insane to me.
After commissions and taxes, you could still get an apartment and live your life.
Its not like with eight episodes we only work one-third of the time.
We work as long as we ever did on a season of 22.
So its wild to me.
You cant make a living wage starting out in this business anymore.
I just cant get over how short-sighted that is, because therell be a brain drain.
People will go to industries where they can live.
Im striking for all the kids that are out here, and I think its important.
